Cambelts

What is a cambelt?
The cambelt (sometimes referred to as the timing belt), is one of the most important parts of your car engine. Its job is to keep the bottom half of the engine in sync with the top half of the engine.

How often does my cambelt need changing?
Most manufacturers advise changing your cambelt roughly every 60,000 miles or every 5 years. This figure does vary depending on the manufacturer so it’s always best to check in your vehicle handbook to find the correct replacement intervals for your vehicle.

What happens if my cambelt snaps?
This depends on the type of engine you have; in a non-interference engine, no damage will occur and a new belt can be fitted. However, in an interference type engine very serious and very costly damage can be caused by a snapped cambelt,
